This performance is a full-fledged theatrical fusillade. It opens fire at the audience with all possible theatrical tools and weapons. It attacks the intellect but the almost touchingly simple and pure emotions too. And it does all that in the right proportions too. This Anna Karenina is as intelligent, conceptual, metatheatrical and metafictional as it is sensual, brutal, ordinary, vulgar, poetic and even sentimental at times. Its theatrical “totalitarianism” is irresistible as it puts in motion each register of human and theatrical experiences.
